As arguably the most well played song of the year, Mark Ronson's (ft. Bruno Mars) Uptown Funk has spawned thousands of mash-up videos already. Not even two months ago we showed one that had painstakingly put together hundreds of movie lines as a way of 'singing' the lyrics. It was glorious. But today it seems most of these existing pieces have been one-upped by YouTube's What's The Mashup new version, where over a hundred movies dance their way through the song.
Beginning with a good old fashioned Walkman, and the awful days when you had to switch the sides of a cassette tape to continue listening to your music (oh my god, it was the dark ages, truly), the video then launches into a slow-clapping routine from Rocky Balboa himself. Before long we hear the first bars of Bruno Mars lyrics as Tom Cruise 'sings' in his shirt and underwear a la Risky Business (1983), and Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly begins to unleash the moonwalk.
The piece builds from here, utilising nearly every genre and style (including some great animation dances). What's The Mashup have done a damn fine job on the video, with the near perfect tempo and rhythm between the film and the music astounding. The mash-up might not be the first of its kind, but it's one of the best, and a delight to watch. When else could you see Ewoks breaking it down as good as the guys from Grease (1978) or Mamma Mia (2008)? So do yourself a favour and check out the video below.
